14 Reasons to Be Thankful for Athletic Charity Events
I’ve read some great blogs here on Charity Mile about gratitude on Thanksgiving and (ideally) every day of the year. Here’s a targeted twist on gratitude – 14 reasons to be thankful for athletic charity events themselves, the very experiences we write about every week:
- You get to spend some time in the great outdoors. What could be better than a run, walk, or ride in the fresh morning air?
- It’s an opportunity to spend quality time with your family and friends. Participating in athletic charity events with your relatives and closest confidants only brings you closer.
- You improve morale and relationships among your co-workers. Even co-workers who can’t agree on anything at work can usually join together to help a local cause.
- You’re a part of something larger than yourself. You don’t have to be religious to experience that warm sense of community that occurs when people come together to help those in need.
- It’s great exercise! Especially if you train all year to particpate in the event.
- You get to set goals and then celebrate your accomplishments. Whether it’s a fundraising goal or a personal fitness goal (or both), athletic charity events provide a structure and a target you can focus on.
- You can make new connections with like-minded people and groups. These new relationships can yield both personal and professional benefits and joy.
- It’s an opportunity to teach kids about giving. Especially if the event includes special activities for children, like games or an essay contest.
- It’s a way to learn how to organize other events. Thinking of coordinating your own athletic charity event? Attending others is the best way to learn what works and what doesn’t.
- They’re fun! Enough said.
- It’s a chance to develop new skills. If you put together a team for the event, you are cultivating organizational, fundraising, and leadership skills that will bring you personal and professional opportunities down the road.
- It’s an opportunity to learn more about a cause. Enhance your knowledge by reading information offered at the event about the health, social, or environmental cause you’re supporting.
- You can discover valuable community resources. If there’s a resource fair at the event, you may learn about an agency or service that could help someone you know.
- You’re making the world a better place. The greatest reason of all to be thankful for athletic charity events.
