The 20th Annual Swim Across The Sound will be held on Wednesday, August 8th. The event begins in Port Jefferson, Long Island and ends in Bridgeport, Connecticut. Both solo swimmers and relay teams participate in the event. It is a race to the finish line. The event is supervised by many volunteers, both in and out of the water.

Four doctors from Norwalk Hospital will participate in the event. Dr. Patrick Nugent of Norwalk, CT, chairman of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology; Dr. Elizabeth Sauter of Weston; Dr. Elisabeth Aronow of New Canaan; and Dr. Wolfgang Steinmann of Stamford will participate in the event. Dr. Elisabeth Aronow is now participating in Swim Across the Sound for the fifth time.

Swim Across The Sound was founded in 1987 in association with St. Vincent’s Medical Center. The charity was founded by a young man who lost his leg to cancer. Its mission is to raise awareness of the impact cancer could have on an individual and their families. They raise funds to help patients.
