March 29 through April 4 marks the 16th annual Bike Florida cycling tour. This year the tour, which is also known as the Capitol Tour, travels through Madison, Monticello, Wakulla Springs, Tallahassee, and back to Madison. Each year the Bike Florida tour travels through a different area of Florida. The half way point of this years tour is located in Tallahassee, the state capitol of Florida.
About Bike Florida Tour
Bike Florida was established as a fundraising event which helps supplement the Florida Traffic and Bicycle Safety Education Program. Proceeds from Bike Florida support bicycle safety education and a regional training team that hosts bicycle safety education workshops for school teachers, youth leaders and law enforcement officers.
The Bike Florida website mentions that “The route varies, linking small towns with natural and historic landmarks along scenic country roads. The event is fully supported with assistance from local law enforcement agencies and safety signage, alerting motorists to “SHARE THE ROAD” with the 1000 cyclists on this weeklong adventure.”
The daily mileage, for the Bike Florida tour, ranges between 40 and 60 miles, with an optional 100 mile century ride being offered on one of the tour days. All sections of the Bike Florida tour are either on paved roads, or paved, multiuse trails. Road bikes, hybrids and mountain bikes can all be ridden by participants of the tour. Cyclists can register for this event through the Active.com website.

My husband and I would like to do the Bike Florida tour, once our kids get a little bit older. Sounds like a really nice event!
