The Gaylord Memory Walk/Swim/Skate for Alzheimer’s held on Saturday, November 10th at the Otsego County Sportsplex in Gaylord, Michigan has raised $2,000 more than last year, and funds are still coming in. The event has raised $12,174 so far. The committee anticipates reaching $15,000 as a potential fundraising goal.

November is National Alzheimer’s Awareness Month. Approximately 100 to 150 people attended the Walk/Swim/Skate event held on Saturday morning. About 50 people attended Friday evening’s candlelight vigil, twice the amount that attended last year.

Collaborative partners at the event include Tendercare of Gaylord, Hospice of Michigan, Vital Care of Gaylord, Aspen Ridge Retirement Village, Wright and Filippis, Otsego Haus Adult Day Services, Otsego Memorial Hospital and Alzheimer’s Association Greater Michigan Chapter.

The second annual Nash-Rocky Mount Alzheimer’s Memory Walk was held on Saturday, October 6th. The walk has raised more than $33,000, $3,000 more than the anticipated goal of $30,000. The walk was held at Nash Community College in Rocky Mount, NC.

The event began with the National Anthem performed by Allison Sykes. The event included individual walkers and teams (corporate, non-corporate and health care). The top individual and corporate fundraisers were recognized and thanked at the Memory Walk.

Funds from the event will benefit families who face Alzheimer’s in the Nash County area. Benefits are also given through the Eastern North Carolina Alzheimer’s Association that include free information, seminars, training program, a toll-free HELP line, support groups and counseling.
