jingle bellThe Maine Jingle Bell Run/Walk event will be held on Sunday, December 2nd at Freeport High School. This event benefits the Arthritis Foundation. Participants are encouraged to come in festive and merry holiday-themed costumes to celebrate the holiday season. What could be more fun that walking or running dressed like Santa Claus or perhaps one of his hard-working elves?

Participants that raise $50 will be given a free shirt and have no entry fee. Funds for this event are raised through entry fees and funds that participants have pledged to them by friends and family.

jingle bellThe Jingle Bell Run/Walk for Northern Kentucky will be held on Saturday, December 8th at the Northern Kentucky Convention Center. The 5K event is a wonderful way to start off the holiday season while helping those with arthritis. Funds raised benefit the Arthritis Foundation.

All runners and walkers will be given a set of jingle bells to tie to their sneakers. The festive sounds of jingle bells will fill the air as participants take to the streets on December 8th to raise funds for arthritis. Participants are also encouraged to wear a holiday-themed costume to add to the fun.

jingle bellTo kick off the holiday season with a running (or walking) start, the Jingle Bell Run/Walk for Arthritis will be held on Saturday, December 1st in Mason City, Iowa at the Southbridge Mall.

Funds raised for the walk will benefit the Arthritis Foundation. Organizers aim to raise $15,000 from this year’s walk. Participants pay an entry fee of $25 and are asked to raise funds through pledges.

All participants are given jingle bells to tie to their shoelaces. Participants are encouraged to wear festive and merry holiday costumes and gear. Awards are given for the top finishers in the competitive runs, best fundraisers and also for best costumes.

The Jingle Bell Run/Walk will also be held in Quad Cities on Saturday, December 15th.

The Arthritis Foundation schedules walks through August until November 2007 throughout the United States in many communities. The Arthritis Walk was held in May 2007 and raised more than $6 million. The Arthritis Foundation hopes to raise $10 million through its Arthritis Walks this year.

The mission of the Arthritis Foundation is “to improve lives through leadership in the prevention, control and cure of arthritis and related diseases”.

California, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Montana, Nevada, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Vermont, Virginia and Wyoming. View their website for dates and locations for walks in your community!

500 bicyclists joined the charity fund-raiser that offers riders views of Channel Islands Harbor and Santa Barbara Harbor. This specific tour was created to train riders for the California Coast Classic Tour.

Proceeds raised go to benefit the Arthritis Foundation and also to help maintain safe area bike paths. The ride had been anticipated to raise about $20,000.

Riders had three routes to select from: a Century ride (102 miles with a 4,000 foot climb in elevation), a Metric Century (60 miles with 2,000 feet of climb), and a Half Metric Century (33 miles with 1,000 feet of climb).

The ride attracted bicyclists from as far away as Alaska, New York and Colorado.

May 2007 is National Arthritis Month. The Arthritis Foundation has held many walks to raise both funds and awareness about the disease. Many may not know that this year alone, almost a million people will be diagnosed with arthritis. Just walking is a critical factor in preventing and managing arthritis. As a member of Joints in Motion, the Arthritis Foundation’s athletic training program you will raise funds and awareness to fight arthritis, the nation’s number one cause of disability.

You can train as a team to run or walk a marathon. Approximately 80% of all Joints in Motion athletes have never run or walked a marathon before, but withguidance and encouragement, nearly all of them go the 26.2 mile distance and cross the finish
line.

JIM is unique in that it also offers a hiking program too. You choose your level and distance and you will be trained to complete a hike that will challenge you.
