Cookbook Sales Can Enhance Health-Related Athletic Charity Events
Are you planning an athletic charity event for a health-related organization? You might want to consider adding a cookbook fundraiser to the event. I recently read an interesting article at fundraisingIP.com about how cookbook fundraisers can bring in significant profits for an agency.
Why Cookbook Sales Can Work
For one thing, you can tailor the cookbook to address the health issue that’s the focus of your charity. If you are trying to raise awareness about heart disease, you can put together a heart-healthy cookbook. If you are raising awareness about Alzheimer’s disease, you could assemble a cookbook with foods that promote brain health.
Also, cookbooks are lasting reminders of your cause. Long after your athletic charity event, participants will think of your agency whenever they use the cookbook, which could increase their chances of remaining supporters of your cause.
Although cookbook projects require organization and collaboration, they’re also a lot of fun. People seem to enjoy contributing their favorite recipes for a good cause, so you will rarely be at a loss for recipes.
Cookbooks can also be sold at multiple events. If you have leftovers from one athletic charity event, they are easy to store and bring out for future events. Depending on the type of printer you use, you can always print more when needed.
How to Create a Cookbook for Your Athletic Charity Event
Keep in mind that there are usually upfront costs to creating and printing a cookbook, so your organization will need to be able to put forth a little money in order to raise money. If you don’t use a print-on-demand company, carefully consider how many cookbooks to print to reduce the risk of ordering more than you can sell.
Most organizations create cookbooks using an online cookbook fundraiser company such as HeritageCookbook.com or they use cookbook software and then enlist an on-demand publishing company such as Lulu.com.
Be sure to display your cookbooks at your athletic charity event at a place they will be easily seen, such as the registration table or as part of your resource fair, if you have one.

Two of the mentors from last years Palm Beach Team in Training marathon team put together a cookbook. They got recipes from other Team in Training members, employees of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, and local patients currently battling a blood cancer.
They got a local printer to donate the cost of printing 500 copies of the cookbook. So their total cost was ZERO – COOL!
Lynn,
What a great example of how cookbooks can enhance an athletic charity event! The fact that they found a local printer to donate the cost of printing makes a HUGE difference.
Thanks so much for sharing,
