Host a Mad Scientist’s Party

Mad Scientist's Laboratory
My friends and I, who do many Team in Training events, are always looking for creative ways to raise money for our latest events.
Science Can Be Fun
This seasons Palm Beach cycle team mentor, Tina O’Brien, is a chemist. She had an idea to host a Mad Scientist’s Party. She is going to get specimen cups and plastic test tubes donated from work, to use for creative beverage containers at the party. She’ll also have lab coats available to hand out to party goers should they decide they want to channel their inner scientist.
We have black lights set up in our living room, thanks to my husband the electrician. I’ll have a lab ware area setup the night of the party which will be filled with various black light reactive liquids – too cool! We are also encouraging guests to show up in costume, sort of like a miniature Halloween Party. Halloween in May, next greatest craze after Christmas in July!?!

Host a Party
I decided to take part in the Mad Scientist fund raiser too, and donated the use of our house for the party. This season, each cycle team member has pledged to raise a minimum of $4,800 for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society as we train for the Tahoe century ride. That’s a lot of fund raising.
My husband and I have hosted a HUGE Halloween Costume Birthday Party for the past three years, so I knew I had plenty of props and decorations on hand that could be used for the Mad Scientist’s Party. I blogged about our yearly Halloween Costume Party, on Charity Mile, back in September.
We will charge $15 for admission, in advance, and $20 the night of the party. We will also hold a 50/50 raffle and have a bunch of donated prizes which will be given away at the Chinese Auction. The party takes place on Saturday, May 9 from 6 PM to 9 PM.
I will be making creative food to serve at the party:
- Flesh Rings – ham, cream cheese & green onion roll ups
- Devil’s Eyeballs – deviled eggs
- Dragon Poo – chocolate walnut fudge
- Bucket o’ Blood – pomegranate juice with lemon/lime soda
I’ll be hosting this party with two of the other member’s of the cycle team. They have gotten donations of soda, chips and adult beverages. They will also be asking local businesses for merchandise and/or gift certificate donations which can used as prizes for the Chinese Auction.
Facebook Page
Tina created a Facebook page for our Mad Scientist’s Party. And we sent out invitations to all our friends, cycle team members and Team in Training alumni. I’ll post up pictures and let you know how the party went.
Take care,

Sounds like fun! I can imagine Rocky Horror Picture Show or Weird Science as great movies to go with it.
I’ve got Rocky Horror Picture Show and Young Frankenstein on DVD. Probably going to put YF on the big screen TV in the living room the night of the party.
It’s going to be FUN!
The Mad Scientist party sounds like a great fundraiser! It’s something I would definately go to! Another thing that could be done for future events like this is to continue the fundraiser into an Online Raffle. Maybe some DVDs that were viewed that night can be raffled off on a web site, and that money could go to the charity as well. Things can get really creative too, maybe one of the props used at the party could be raffled off so someone can use it at one of their parties. It could be fun!
