Litchfield, CT holds First Annual American Cancer Society Making Strides for Breast Cancer Walk Raises $75,000
Posted by Abigail Beal on Oct 26, 2007 under Athletic Events, Breast Cancer, Cancer, Causes, Walking |More than 1,000 walkers participated in the first-ever American Cancer Society Making Strides for Breast Cancer Walk held in Litchfield, CT on Sunday, October 21st. The walk raised $75,000 for breast cancer research and programs. Approximately 65 to 75 cancer survivors joined the walk’s efforts.
The Litchfield walk was held at White Memorial Conservation Center, a 4,000 acre nature preserve off of Route 202. Walkers enjoyed mild temperatures for their fundraising walk.
“We’re so pleased to know that this walk was such a success,” said Christian Meagher, area director of communications for the American Cancer Society’s New England Division in Wilton. “It was great to see the community come out in such support for a first-year event like this. We had a really strong feeling it would be a success, considering how the Relay for Life of the Northwest hills has grown in the last five years …The response is also based on the improved breast health services offered at New Milford and Charlotte Hungerford hospitals in New Milford and Torrington,” he continued.
Other walks were held in other parts of Connecticut, nearby in Westport at the Sherwood Island State Park on Sunday, October 14th and also at the Danbury Fair Mall in Danbury on Sunday, October 21st, both in Fairfield County, CT.
