Scavenger Hunt Fundraiser

Shaving Cream Beards
Members of our Palm Beach Team in Training cycle team held a scavenger hunt fundraiser on Sunday, March 8. The Palm Beach TNT team is currently training for America’s Most Beautiful Bike Ride, which takes place on June 7 in Tahoe, NV. Each member of the team has pledged to raise a minimum of $4,800 for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
After the scavenger hunt, the teams met back at Bru’s Room, a local sports bar, in Delray Beach. Friends and family members, that weren’t involved in the scavenger hunt, also met at Bru’s Room to enjoy free food, drinks, and to purchase raffle tickets for the 50/50 raffle and Chinese Auction prizes.

Squeeze the Charmin
The scavenger hunt and raffle was organized by cycle team Mentor Tina O’Brien and cycle team members Jeanne Knudsen and Louise Wardell. Bru’s Room donated a section of their sports bar, so Team in Training could setup for the party afterwards. Tina added up the points for each scavenger hunt team, after they returned to Bru’s Room, while Jeanne and Louise sold raffle tickets.
I would guess that there were a total of 40 people, including members of the scavenger hunt teams, that showed up for this event. The fundraisers also sold raffle tickets to Bru’s Room patrons. The guy that won the 50/50 raffle bought a round of drinks for his friends, then donated the rest of his winnings back to Team in Training – AWESOME!
Snacks and Drinks
The food, which included homemade potato chips, spinach dip with chips and chicken wings was free. There was a lot of drinking going on along with that food, which is how Bru’s Room made their money. My husband and I brought our 13 year old daughter along with us, since she knows quite a few of the Team in Training members. We spent a few $$ on her since she wanted a chicken finger basket, sweet potato fries and a few Shirley Temples. I may have had more then one beer – CARBO loading!?!

Walk Strangers Dog
Here are the Details of the Scavenger Hunt

that was great it made me feel like i was right there!!
Looks like everyone had a good time. Tina has some crazy, great ideas for fund raising.
She really does and its a good thing she knows what she is doing !!
This looks like it was a lot of fun!! (especially the shaving cream beards)
The idea kind of reminds me of another children’s cancer organization I recently found out about called the St. Baldrick’s foundation.
The organization hosts shaving events as a fun way to raise money for children’s cancer. People shave their heads and in exchange, friends and family members pledge donations. Pretty simple. The org has raised $50 million since 2000!
The daughter of the women in the scavenger hunt photos wearing the pink shirt is raising $$ through St. Baldrick’s. Her mom is supporting her by shaving her head too. We donated to the daughter’s fundraiser on Saturday.
This is great! I’m working on planning a community scavenger hunt to benefit Big Brothers Big Sisters. Would you be willing to share more detailed information with me?
Hello Janet,
I didn’t participate in the Scavenger Hunt. A couple members of my local Team in Training cycle team did it as a fundraiser for the Leukemia Society. This blog post contains all the information I know.
Take care,
Lynn
Great idea for volunteering. Looks very fun and creative. I hope to organize a similar event in the future.
