Spinning Nation 2009

Spinning Nation is a national fundraising event endorsed by the Spinning indoor cycling program. Spinning Nation ‘09 takes place on February 28 and benefits Athletes for a Cure and the Lance Armstrong Foundation. The event takes place at certified Spinning facilities throughout the United States.

History of Spinning
According to their website: “Venice, California-based Mad Dogg Athletics, Inc., creator of the Spinning® indoor group cycling program, has brought fitness, health and balance to millions worldwide through the distribution of quality products and innovative instructor training programs. Founded in 1992 by Spinning program creator Johnny G and John Baudhuin, the company’s mission was to make the Spinning program available to individuals worldwide while maintaining the sound training principles that differentiate Spinning from other indoor cycling classes.”

Spin with a Local Team
You can find a Spinning Nation ‘09 team in your area, and register to ride for that team. The winning team ($10,000 minimum for eligibility) will send their highest fundraiser to the Tour De France in Paris or the Hawaii Ironman Championships in Kona. COOL! The Spinning Nation ‘08 fundraising event, had 2,000 riders participate, who raised over $300,000.

The class is taught by a certified Spinning instructor, at a certified Spinning facility. Check your local gym to see if they offer this program. In an previous post, I mentioned how a local gym, Michael’s Body Scenes, donated a weekly spinning class to Team in Training. Michael’s is a certified Spinning facility, and will be hosting the Spinning Nation ‘09 event at their gym. Last year, Michael’s Body Scenes hosted 4 spinning classes, as part of the Spinning Nation ‘08 event, and raised over $31,000!
