Team in Training Hikes
Yesterday, Lori Rice wrote about Add Hiking to Your Training Routine. Hiking is a fantastic activity to do as part of a cross training routine. And on the less technical hiking trails, you may even come across a trail runner or two. When I first started running, just about a year ago, the first pair of shoes I bought was a pair of off road New Balance running shoes. There are quite a few parks and nature trails in my area, where I like to do some short off road runs. Hiking and trail running is a nice change from my normal cycling and road running workout routines.
Hike With Team in Training
Team in Training, is one of the main fundraising programs for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. The South Florida Team in Training chapter, based out of Hollywood, Florida has added hiking to their athletic events for the 2009 spring season. Members of the South Florida chapter will be participating in the Grand Canyon Hike, which takes place on May 16, in Grand Canyon National Park. Visit Steph & Dean’s Hike for Discovery blog, for a terrific review, including tons of pictures, of the 2006 Hike for Discovery.
Unfortunately, my local Team in Training chapter doesn’t offer hiking as one of its events. But the South Florida Team in just a bit south of me, so maybe I’ll have to join them if they have any hikes planned for the 2010 season.
I just visited the national Team in Training site and see they have additional hikes planned for the fall season. September 12 – Rocky Mountain hike and October 3 – Great Smoky Mountain hike. You can visit the national Team in Training website, and type in your zip code, to see what TNT events are scheduled for your area.
Former Mountain Goat?
I love hiking. I grew up in the Adirondack Mountain of upstate New York – Lake Placid and Saranac Lake. I used to be part mountain goat and hike all over the place. Once of the reasons my husband and I purchased land in western North Carolina, is because it reminds me of the Adirondack Mountains. Lots of great hiking and mountain biking trails in western NC. I look forward to getting back into hiking in the future.
Take care,

Very cool, Lynn. Thanks so much for sharing your experiences on the topic and all the ideas for hiking groups and events to get involved in.
Thank you for your hiking post. I was looking for a topic for today’s post, when I saw your hiking post yesterday a light bulb went off!
When I first saw your e-mail I thought you were running a marathon and I was completely shocked!….Hiking makes much more sense
…. All joking aside, I’m so glad that you are doing this! We donate to Team In Training every year. One of these days we will get up the motivation to particpate ourselves!
I am so glad to see something like this. How often do they travel?
My brother-in-law was diagnosed with Periferal T-Cell Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma last September. Yesterday, June 2, 2009, he lost the battle against the cancer and now is in the hands of God….
